Essential oils are natural, concentrated plant essences that are characterized by their aroma. They come from various parts of the plants, such as roots, leaves, bark, fruit, seeds and flowers. Each plant yields a different amount of oil, which determines its cost. It can take up to 1,000 lbs. of lavender flowers to yield just one ounce of pure lavender essential oil, but it takes up to 10,000 lbs. of rose petals to yield an ounce of rose oil. As you can see, pure essential oils are going to have different price points depending on the plant itself, the availability and the season.
Green Clean Chic uses one of the oldest distributors in the industry, who source their oils from all over the world. To define the purity of an oil, it must be gas chromatography tested, or “GC tested”. All of our batches are GC tested and guaranteed to be 100% pure. The shelf life of essential oils can depend on the way they are stored. Proper storage is a must! Keep essential oils tightly capped and if possible, in a cool, dark place. All of our oils are sold in dark colored, glass bottles just for this reason.
Our essential oils have excellent cleaning properties, such as antibacterial, antiviral, disinfecting, insect repelling, antifungal, and so on. Not to mention, these oils are good for other uses as well! Use essential oils with caution though; a little bit goes a long way! If you are using them for skincare purposes, be sure to dilute them in a carrier (such as lotion or grapeseed oil).
Join me on my quest to make our homes a cleaner and healthier place to live by using essential oils in place of commercial grade or store bought cleaning products. The EPA has stated that the indoor air that we breathe can be up to 70 times more toxic than the outdoor air due to VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that are found in cleaning products. A few good oils, some baking soda and vinegar, and you are on your way to going green! Let essential oils do the job that chemically induced cleaners do and you will reap the benefits of a healthy home that smells fabulous!
